Lithography should not be confused with photo-offset lithography. The printmaker creates the image with a greasy medium like a grease pencil on limestone. The stone is then chemically treated to fix the grease in place. While keeping the stone wet, ink is rolled onto the image, adhering to only the grease image. Paper is placed over the image on the stone, then run through a press.

Polyester Litho plates can also now be used to produce a lithograph.
